Sikh on a motorcycle

Today, I was working on an eBay article about motorcycle helmets and came across with the following paragraph of law.

On all journeys, the rider and pillion passenger on a motorcycle, scooter or moped MUST wear a protective helmet. This does not apply to a follower of the Sikh religion while wearing a turban.

What can I say? Doesn’t feel safe to me, unless the turbans have never-before-mentioned hidden powers that can protect the wearer. On the other hand, how many Sikhs have you seen riding a motorcycle? Probably there must have been some because they made a law for this. And what about other religions? Muslim women should leave their burkas on? Actually, I found a photo of a Sikh on a motorcycle. Looks like it’s a growing trend.
